British inmate must deny rape to live
A British woman being held in a Laos jail has been told she will face the firing squad unless she denies she was raped in prison.
A Laos government spokesman appeared defensive when asked who fathered the baby, the newspaper reported.
“It is a mystery — maybe it is a baby from the sky,” the spokesman, Kenthong Nuanthasing, said.
I wish I could think of something more intelligent to say about this, but the fact is that the whole story just makes me sick, angry, and sad. I don’t care that she was importing heroin; simple humanity is vastly more important than your country’s self-image.
