No such thing as an ex-Marine.
Just to reiterate the point for guys who may one day date a woman whose father is a Marine: Never start a friendly conversation with a guy you know served in the Marines by saying, “so I hear you were a Marine…”. It will be the last friendly conversation you have with that person
The kids were pretty brave too -

I’d like to be at the Thanksgiving table five or ten years from now when this gets brought up again: “Hey Dad, remember when you saved our lives by killing a bear with a piece of wood you found? That was cool.”
