Paris Trip Days 1 and 2
I currently have very little concept of time and space (oddly enough though, a better understanding of temporal relativity.)
I know that we left our apartment at 8am Sunday, Los Angeles time. I also know that we landed around 9am Monday Paris time, which was around midnight on Sunday Los Angeles time. Furthermore, several different electronic devices tell me that it’s now about quarter after 5pm in Paris, and my body corroborates my feeling that I’ve had less than 2 hours sleep since our initial outset - despite having taken a sleeping pill on the plane. So, if my math isn’t off by too much, that means we’ve now been awake for more or less a hundred hours straight.
We’re both pretty exhausted, but to make sure we can acclimate ourselves as best as possible, we’re doing our best to stay up until something approaching local bedtime. To that point, we’ve gotten into Paris, found our apartment, had a nice lunch at a cafe, done a fair bit of walking around the city, and hit up the grocery store for dinner. Then later tonight we’re going to crash out like a drunk baby at a birthday party and wake up tomorrow to tackle the city some more.
I’m holding off on any first impressions of Paris until I’ve had some rest and feel like anything even passably approaching human. That being said, I’ve enjoyed the architecture and am looking forward to sampling some of the local food wares over the next week and a half. Also I’ve noticed that with very few exceptions, people seem to drive actual, working, micro-machines. I’ve seen cars that could be stolen by a small group of rather ambitious fifth graders using nothing but moxy and proper lifting technique. I find it sort of oddly fascinating.

The boy & I split an Ambien on our flight to Paris but couldn’t fall asleep either. I feel yr pain. If you find yourself hungry for dinner on the Quai de la Tournelle across from Notre Dame, go to La Rotisserie du Beaujolais & split the cote de boef.
