Twitter is the new trucker hat.
I have been getting a ton of Twitter spam lately…i mention a word and I get an immediate tweet back trying to sell me something, 90% of people who have followed me in the past week are worthless bots, or people just trying out twitter and will never log in after tomorrow.
Due to Twitter’s limitations with appeal to people who aren’t geeks, function, and profile quality, it seems it’s losing its appeal to its core audience as it moves into the mainspamstream…sort of like trucker hats and other things that arrive in the malls of America two years after being made cool in NYC.
It used to be that when I got notified of a new follower, I checked out their page to see who they were, what their voice was, and what they were all about. Now, unless someone actually replies to one of my tweets with a real thought (as opposed to just auto-retweeting because I used a key word) I don’t even bother. Replies have essentially become my cue that someone’s A) Human, B) Interested in the conversation and, C) Worth checking out.
